Personal Bio
Malaysia-based Filipino artist had private tutelage in Singapore under an Ateneo University art instructor supplemented with a short art course in LaSalle-SIA. She has held exhibitions in Malaysia, the Philippines & Singapore, many of which are held with a view towards cultural exchange and community relations.
“Abstractions that abbreviate a subject, defamiliarize a common object, and propose different perspectives either as close up views or partial views of even the simplest of things are my favourite subjects. These, to me, best express the strong intimacy I feel towards the subjects. There is reduced visible information that is presented and the audience is left to make a generalization of the entirety. In my view, this brings about some degree of interaction with the audience as the audience forms the entirety with his or her imagination (regardless of whether the viewer is fully aware of this). The artwork thus becomes a creation of two parties that is initiated by myself and completed by the audience… making us one when the artwork is concluded in the mind of the viewer. It is both an artist’s abbreviation of the subject and the audience’s expansion of the same. Nonetheless, expressionism also feature in my work while landscapes and still life are often inspired by nostalgia."
A full time artist, Aida does not only have right brain endeavours, she has also topped the licensure exams after graduating in Industrial Pharmacy from the University of the Philippines.
